Accessibility

CardVault aims to be usable by everyone, and to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA.
If you have low vision
- Text and buttons meet WCAG AA colour contrast, and links in text are underlined, so nothing relies on colour alone.
- You can zoom to 200% or more without losing content or scrolling sideways; the layout works down to 320 pixels wide.
- Light and dark mode: CardVault follows your device's setting, and the sun/moon button in the header switches between them. Both modes meet WCAG AA colour contrast.
- If your device asks for more contrast, CardVault switches to stronger colours (black on white, or white on black in dark mode) and thicker borders.
- Every card picture has a text alternative giving the card's name, and Poké Ball ratings are also given as text, for example "4 out of 5 Poké Balls". Full and empty balls differ in shape, not only colour.
- Pages use proper headings, labels and landmarks, so screen readers such as VoiceOver, NVDA and TalkBack can move around them.
- Success and error messages are read out by screen readers, and start with the word "Success" or "Error", not just a colour.
If you are deaf or hard of hearing
CardVault has no sound, audio or video. Everything, including every message, is written text on screen, so nothing depends on hearing. If video is ever added, it will have captions.
If you use a keyboard
- Everything can be reached and used with the keyboard, with a clear outline showing where you are.
- A "Skip to main content" link is the first thing on every page.
- The Poké Ball rating on the review form is a normal set of radio buttons: Tab to it, then use the arrow keys or Space to choose from 1 to 5.
Movement
Movement is kept small, slow and never flashes: card tiles lift slightly when you point at them, Rare Holo cards shimmer once, and the home page plays a short welcome animation on your first visit only, with a Skip button. The faint rarity symbols behind the home page banner float slowly; the "Pause animation" button in the banner's corner stops them. If your device is set to reduce motion, all of this is switched off and you see the finished page straight away.
Known limitations
- The text printed on each card picture (its attacks and description) is part of the image and is not described in words beyond the card's name, set, number and rarity.
- Card pictures come from another service. If it cannot be reached, a placeholder is shown instead.
How this was tested
Every page passes the W3C HTML validator and an automated accessibility check (axe), and was tested with the keyboard alone and at narrow widths. Details are in the project's testing record.
Tell us about a problem
If anything on CardVault is hard to use, please open an issue on the project's GitHub page and describe what happened. Accessibility problems are treated as bugs.
